The morning strolls around the nature reserve near our house can include some lovely conditions. One morning, the dew had collected on the various spider webs in the grass, and they looked lovely while backlit but the early sun. Couldn’t resist taking a few shots of them. The wider view didn’t make for an interesting shot but if you were there, you could see just how many webs there were across the field.

Backlighting the Moss
The Pacific Northwest can definitely be damp and the amount of moss you see in sheltered areas is impressive. What caught my eye on this occasion was that the moss was wrapped around the tree and the sun was directly behind the tree making the moss appear more like a halo around the tree than anything else. It was quite a range of exposures, so I played around with the shots a little to get the effect I was after.
Backlight For A Seastack
During the evenings at Cannon Beach, we could see lots of lights out on the water. Fishing boats were out at work and their lights were very bright. I am not sure whether they only fish at night or not. During the day, it would be hard to spot them without the lights giving you a clue since they were generally quite far out. However, one boat was closer in than the others. It was right behind on of the sea stacks near Haystack Rock. With a lot of mist in the air, the light from the boat was diffused and provided a backlight to the rock. It wasn’t lone before the boat came out from behind the rock and the effect was lost.
